Yamilett Hernandez

 Artist Statement

Hello My name is Yamilett Hernandez. I am 16 years old and I started my career as a dancer when I was 5 years old. This year it is my 11th year of dance. My first class that I ever took was a hip hop class. Around my 2nd year of dance I started ballet, jazz, tap, and lyric. I stayed with all the genres till I was 11. And told my mom I want to expand myself as a hip hop dancer. I took one year off from my studio and took classes with break dancers. And loved it. I joined my studio after a year and We had a new hip hop teacher. He loved my way of dancing and let me meet more kids into hip hop. Without that I wouldn’t be where I am today.

My animated gif means a lot to me. It shows all the steps in a movement that most miss when it happens quickly. But because I can control how slow or fast the movement can go I’m glad that everyone can see the tiny movements that involve a little kick or a little turn.
